Dulce Pontes

Dulce Pontes is a Portuguese musician and vocalist who writes and performs in the traditional folk music style called fado. Pontes was born in 1969 in the town of Montijo, Portugal, a suburb of Lisbon. Trained as a pianist, Pontes became a singer after entering a competition in her home town in Portugal at the age of 18. She soon became an actress in Portuguese television and theater. In 1991 she won the national song festival with her song "Lusitana Paixo" (known in English as "Tell Me"), which allowed her to represent Portugal at the Eurovision Song Contest. She later moved to Spain where she currently resides (as of 2004). While her music is largely in the style of traditional fadistas such as Amlia Rodrigues, she also has blended traditional forms with contemporary styles, and much of her music is similar to artists such as Kate Bush. She has also collaborated with Italian composer Ennio Morricone on a number of projects.
