Dragon DataDragon Data was a Welsh producer of home computers based on the Motorola MC6809E microprocessor (cpu), the SN74LS783/MC6883 Synchronous Address Multiplexer (SAM) and MC6847 Video Display Processor. I/O was provided by two MC6821 Peripheral Interface Adaptors (PIA)s These computers strongly resembled the Tandy TRS-80 Color Computer (CoCo)- both followed a standard Motorola datasheet configuration for the three key components (cpu, SAM and VDG). However, the Dragon design was complicated by circuitry to convert the 525-line output from the VDG to the UK 625-line standard. The machines came in both 32k and (later) 64k versions - see Dragon 32/64. The history of Dragon Data in the period 1982-4 was a chequered one - at its high point it entered negotiations with Tano to form a North American branch. However, a number of circumstances (the delay in introducing the 64k model, the late introduction of the external disk unit and of the supporting OS9-based software caused DD to lose market share. It eventually went into receivership and was sold on to the Spanish startup Eurohard in 1984. Reference - Smeed D & Sommerville I Inside the Dragon Addison-Wesley, 1983
