Dorothea Tanning

Dorothea Tanning (Aug. 25, 1910) is a painter, printmaker, and sculptor. She has also designed sets and costumes for ballet and theater. Born in Galesburg, Illinois, Tanning lived in Paris for twenty-eight years. She was married to German painter Max Ernst (his second wife, after Peggy Guggenheim). She recently published her memoirs, Birthdays. She now lives in New York City.
