• In Greek mythology, Doris ("bountiful") was a Oceanid, daughter of Oceanus and Tethys. She was married to Nereus and their fifty daughters were called the Nereids.

• In geography and history, Doris was the region in central Greece in which the Dorians had their traditional homeland.

• In naval history, Doris was a French coastal submarine of the Sirne class. At 00.14 hours on 9 May 1940, the Doris (CdC Favreul) was torpedoed and sunk North West off the Dutch Coast, 30 miles from Den Helder, by the German submarine U-9.
