Dora Carrington

Dora Carrington (1893 - March 11 1932) was a British painter and decorative artist. Dora de Houghton Carrington was born in 1893. She attended a girls' high school that emphasised art and her parents paid for her to attend extra lessons in drawing. She won a scholarship to the Slade School of Art in London. She did not use the name 'Dora' preferring to be called 'Carrington'. She was not well known as a painter during her lifetime as she did not sign her work and only rarely exhibited any of it. She was a member of the Bloomsbury Group. In March 1932 she shot herself after the death in January of her longtime friend Lytton Strachey. Carrington, Dora Carrington, Dora
