Donna NookDonna Nook is a bombing range on the coast of Lincolnshire, United Kingdom, north of the village of North Somercotes. The area is salt marsh, and is used by the numerous Royal Air Force bases in Lincolnshire for bombing practice. The resident wildlife fare suprisingly well, and seem to have become accustomed to aircraft bombing them on a regular basis. One particular group is the Grey Seal population, which is visited by around 30,000 people a year, and the seals return to breed during September to December every year. Other Information The Donna Nook was also a 40 metre, 307 ton trawler, built in 1916 at Selby. She was pressed into service in 1941 as a minesweeper. She was accidentally rammed and sunk by another minesweeper called the Stella Rigel whilst hurrying to the assistance of a third minesweeper, the Franc Tireur, who was under torpedo attack by S96, a German E-Boat laying mines near Bouy 52, 12 miles north of Harwich, on the night of 24/25th September 1941. Her crew were saved by the Stella Rigel.
