Dharam Singh

Dharam Singh (born on December 25, 1936), is the 17th Chief Minister of Karnataka state in India. He was sworn into office as the 17th Chief Minister on May 28, 2004. He was born in Nelogi village of Jewargi taluk.

Education

Dharam Singh has an MA and LLB degrees from Osmania University, Hyderabad. He was an advocate by profession.

  • 1968: Councilor, Gulbarga City Municipal Council.
  • 1972: Member of Karnataka Legislative Assembly.
  • Member of State Backward Classes Commission.
  • Minister for Urban Development, Karnataka.
  • Minister for Home, Karnataka.
  • Minister for Social Welfare, Karnataka.
  • Minister for Revenue and Public works, Karnataka.

Other milestones

  • He has been elected consecutively for the record eighth term from Jewargi assembly constituency of Gulbarga district.
  • He is first elected president of the KPCC.
  • Visited U.S.S.R. in 1977 as an Indian delegate to participate in 60th Anniversary of Indo-Soviet and youth union Delegation.
