Deree College

Deree College, together with the Junior College and the Pierce College, forms The American College of Greece. Deree College is in Aghia Paraskevi, a suburb in the metropolitan area of Athens, Greece.

History

The American College of Greece was founded in 1875 in the city of Smyrna, Asia Minor, by American Christian missionaries. At first it was an all-girls secondary school and later became an institution of higher education in 1885. During the massive deportations of the Greek population by the Turks, the American College of Greece was shut down in 1922. It reopened in Athens in 1936 after the invitation of Eleftherios Venizelos, who was then the head of the Greek government.
