Derby StationDerby station is a comparatively modern structure, dating from the 2nd World War. The original station, it is understood, stood a few hundred yards to the South, and was one of the few structures in Derby to suffer significant bomb-damage. The station has six platforms, connected by a bridge - this bridge also gave access to the Carriage and Wagon works (part of BREL, Derby Works), now closed. The station is an interchange between the Midland Main Line services from London St Pancras, and the Cross-Country route through Birmingham. Mile posts on the 'Cross Country' route are origined from Derby, since this was the original base of the Midland Railway.
