Democracy Now!

right Democracy Now! is an independent, award-winning news and opinion radio program airing on over 300 stations across North America every weekday, as well as both satellite television networks. It is the flagship national program of the Pacifica Radio network. It broadcasts on Pacifica, community, and NPR stations, public access cable television stations, satellite television (on Free Speech TV, channel 9415 of the DISH Network and on Link TV channel 375 of the DirecTV satellite network and also on channel 9410 of the Dish Network), shortwave radio and over the internet. The program was founded in 1996 at WBAI in New York City by journalists Amy Goodman, Larry Bensky, Juan Gonzalez, Salim Muwakkil, and Julie Drizin. It is primarily concerned with issues of war, democracy, and human rights. The program regularly questions the motives of U.S. foreign and domestic policy, in an attempt to provide an alternative to what it describes as "mainstream" and "corporate" national news coverage. Democracy Now! and its staff have won dozens of journalism awards, including the George Polk Award, the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Prize, and the Pinnacle Award for American Women in Radio & Television.
