Deadline (Time Limit)

A deadline is a point in time at which some task must be completed.

Etymology

Originally, a deadline was a boundary outside a prison that could not be crossed by a prisoner. If a prisoner crossed this boundary, he would be shot. The current application of the term "deadline" was originally used in newspaper reporter's jargon. News stories completed after the time the newspaper was sent to the presses were "killed."
