Davitt Moroney

Davitt Moroney is a British-born musicologist and harpsichordist. Born 1950; MSc in musicology from King's College; advanced harpsichord studies with Kenneth Gilbert and Gustav Leonhardt; concert performance and teaching diplomas 1974 from Royal Academy of Music (London); Ph.D. in musicology from University of California, Berkeley 1980, with a thesis on the music of Thomas Tallis and William Byrd. Extensive concert and recording career followed; he returned to the UC Berkeley faculty in 2001. He published critical editions of the work of various Baroque composers, including a keyboard edition of Johann Sebastian Bach's The Art of Fugue that contains his conjectured completion of the final (unfinished) fugue.
