David HestenesDavid Orlin Hestenes, Ph.D. (born 1933) is a physicist. He has worked as a Research Professor at the Department of Physics and Astronomy of Arizona State University (ASU), where he is now emeritus. In total, he spent more than 30 years at ASU. His areas of work have included mathematical and theoretical physics, geometric calculushttp://modelingnts.la.asu.edu/GC_R&D.html and geometric algebra, neural networks and cognitive research in science education. From 1976 to 1979, he was an Editorial Advisory Board Member (formerly called Associate Editor) of the American Journal of Physics. In 2002, the American Association of Physics Teachers awarded him the Oersted Medal, recognizing notable contributions to the teaching of physics. He has been Principal Investigator of the US National Science Foundation grants in modeling instruction at both the high school and college levels.
