Dave Gibbons

Dave Gibbons (born April 14, 1949) is a British artist of comic books. Gibbons broke into British Comics quite quickly working on horror and action titles for both D.C. Thompson and IPC. When 2000AD was set up Gibbons was brought in as an Art Director and to draw one of the original strips "Harlem Heroes" as well as the occasional short story. After the first year Gibbons switched to Dan Dare a cherished project for Gibbons who was a fan of the original series. Gibbons also drew a spin-off the Ro-Busters strip and a couple of two part stories of the original ABC Warriors story. Gibbons last work for 2000AD was the first run of Rogue Trooper of which he was also co-creator, after which he concentrated for a time on Doctor Who Weekly/Monthly Gibbons was one of the British Comic talents identified by Len Wein in 1982 and began drawing "Green Lantern" for DC. He is best known in the US for collaborating with Alan Moore on the comics series Watchmen. Amongst Doctor Who fans he is known as the original artist on Doctor Who Weekly/Monthly, drawing the lead comic strips for most of the issues from #1 until #69. He also contributed to the 1994 Revolution Software title Beneath a Steel Sky.
