Dalia (Mythology)

In Lithuanian mythology, Dalia is the goddess of weirding and doom. She is the giver and taker back of goods. Dalia with her sister Laimė are the entourage of Laima. Sometimes Dalia is identified with Laimė, and Laimė is identified with Laima. Dalia is an omniscient goddess of birthing and fate. Dalia is associated with ducklings, swans, cuckoos, hawks, and yearlings. She is a spinner, weaver and seamstress. She also vitiates and nips off the cloth of life. The symbol of Laima or Dalia is distaff. Laimė and Dalia are associated with the managing goddesses Deivės Valdytojos.
