It is located in the country's central highlands. Until recently, Dak Nong was part of the larger Dak Lak Province, but is now fully independent. Politically, Dak Nong is divided into six districts: Cu Jut, Dak Mil, Dak Nong, Dak R'Lap, Dak Song, and Krong No. The provincial capital is Gia Nghia.
