particle physics

synchrotron radiation
research and is member of and mostly financed by the
Helmholtz Association of National Research Centres
. Its two main locations are
Hamburg
and
Zeuthen
. The main scientific achievement at DESY was the discovery of the
gluon
at the
PETRA
particle accelerator
in
1979
.
