Crugers, New YorkCrugers is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) located in the town of Cortlandt, Westchester County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the hamlet had a total population of 1,752. Geography Crugers is located at 41°13'59" North, 73°55'18" West (41.232981, -73.921586). According to the United States Census Bureau, the hamlet has a total area of 3.3 km² (1.3 mi²). 1.8 km² (0.7 mi²) of it is land and 1.5 km² (0.6 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 44.44% water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 1,752 people, 826 households, and 327 families residing in the hamlet. The population density is 966.4/km² (2,506.4/mi²). There are 846 housing units at an average density of 466.6/km² (1,210.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the hamlet is 92.18% White, 4.05% African American, 0.51% Native American, 0.97% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.14% from other races, and 1.14% from two or more races. 3.54% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 826 households out of which 13.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 33.8% are married couples living together, 5.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 60.3% are non-families. 59.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 44.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 1.79 and the average family size is 2.90. In the hamlet the population is spread out with 12.8% under the age of 18, 2.5% from 18 to 24, 16.0% from 25 to 44, 21.9% from 45 to 64, and 46.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 63 years. For every 100 females there are 70.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 66.3 males. The median income for a household in the hamlet is $30,375, and the median income for a family is $86,598. Males have a median income of $58,571 versus $55,081 for females. The per capita income for the hamlet is $29,643. 5.6% of the population and 4.5% of families are below the poverty line.
