Coulee City, Washington

Coulee City is a town located in Grant County, Washington. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 600.

History

Coulee City was officially incorporated on May 10, 1907.

Geography

  City is located at 47°36'43" North, 119°17'27" West (47.611942, -119.290904). 
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.6 km² (1.0 mi²). 2.6 km² (1.0 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 600 people, 271 households, and 162 families residing in the town. The population density is 234.0/km² (605.0/mi²). There are 351 housing units at an average density of 136.9/km² (353.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 94.83% White, 1.00% African American, 0.83% Native American, 0.33% Asian, 0.50% Pacific Islander, 0.17% from other races, and 2.33% from two or more races. 2.83% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 271 households out of which 25.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.3% are married couples living together, 10.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 39.9% are non-families. 36.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 18.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.21 and the average family size is 2.87. In the town the population is spread out with 24.0% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 21.7% from 25 to 44, 23.7% from 45 to 64, and 23.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 102.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 99.1 males. The median income for a household in the town is $25,938, and the median income for a family is $42,500. Males have a median income of $31,375 versus $17,250 for females. The per capita income for the town is $14,411. 22.1% of the population and 14.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 29.2% of those under the age of 18 and 11.7% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
