Cortina D'ampezzo

Cortina d'Ampezzo (population 8000) is a town in the province of Veneto, northern Italy. Located in the Dolomites at an elevation of 1210 m, it is a popular winter sport resort. Probably the among the three most exclusive mountain location in Europe, Cortina is known for its first class Hotels and shops. During the summer and winter holiday it is tradition to go for a walk on Corso Italia were all tourists go for shopping, but most of all to see and to be seen. The surroundings of Cortina were the location for some movies like Cliffhanger starring Sylvester Stallone and The Pink Panther starring David Niven and Peter Sellers. Cortina d'Ampezzo was the host town of the 1956 Winter Olympics. The 1944 Winter Olympics were also scheduled to be held in Cortina, but were cancelled because of World War II. Close to Cortina d'Ampezzo is San Vito di Cadore.
