Communist Party Of IcelandThe Communist Party of Iceland (Icelandic: Kommnistaflokkur slands) was a political party in Iceland from 1930 to 1938. History In the 1920s icelandic communists tried to take over the Social Democratic Party but their ideology and the party's, was quickly growing apart. The communists formed a radical section within the party which they called the Association of Young Communists. That soon became the Sparta Socialist Association but eventually they left the social democrats to form their own party as suggested by Comintern. The Communist Party of Iceland was formed in 1930 and immediately became a member of Comintern. In 1938 another splintergroup, which left the social democrats the year before, unified itself with the communists forming the United People's Socialist Party (Sameiningarflokkur alu, ssalistaflokkurinn). The new party did not continue the Comintern membership. However, the communists were dominant in the party and it was mostly the same as it's predecessor. In 1956 the United People's Socialist Party formed the People's Alliance as an electoral alliance with yet another splintergroup from the Social Democratic Party. The People's Alliance became a political party in 1968 and there has not been a communist party in Iceland since.
