From 1997 to 2002 there was a $1000 coin, which was withdrawn from circulation due to massive counterfeiting. So widespread was this problem that at the time the withdrawal order was given, bogus coins outnumbered legitimate ones.

Bills

The available bill denominations are: As noted above, the $1000 note was withdrawn from circulation to be replaced by a coin; however, it was subsequently reintroduced, with a new design, due to the coin counterfeiting problem.
