The current enrollment of COC is about 15,000 students (with 182 full-time faculty) on a 153-acre campus. The college offers a variety of A.A. degree and certificate programs, including Child Development, Fire Control Technology , and Industrial Manufacturing. The college officially began in 1969, operating on the campus of Hart High School in Newhall. In 1970, the college purchased a permanent campus site of "rolling hills and tree-dotted arroyos" for a permanent campus, and has continually been expanding and building, all while trying to ensure that "the structures blend with the natural attributes of the location, creating a relaxed and comfortable physical environment."
