Clermont County, Ohio

Clermont County is a county located in the state of Ohio, just east of Cincinnati. As of 2000, the population is 177,977. Its county seat is Batavia6. The county is named either for a place in France or for the French for "clear mountain" though there are no mountains here.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,185 km² (458 mi²). 1,171 km² (452 mi²) of it is land and 15 km² (6 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.24% water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 177,977 people, 66,013 households, and 49,047 families residing in the county. The population density is 152/km² (394/mi²). There are 69,226 housing units at an average density of 59/km² (153/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 97.13% White, 0.91% Black or African American, 0.19% Native American, 0.63% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.26% from other races, and 0.86% from two or more races. 0.87% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 66,013 households out of which 38.10% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.40% are married couples living together, 10.00% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.70% are non-families. 21.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.00% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.67 and the average family size is 3.11. In the county the population is spread out with 27.90% under the age of 18, 8.40% from 18 to 24, 31.70% from 25 to 44, 22.60% from 45 to 64, and 9.40% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 96.40 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.60 males. The median income for a household in the county is $49,386, and the median income for a family is $57,032. Males have a median income of $40,739 versus $27,613 for females. The per capita income for the county is $22,370. 7.10% of the population and 5.30% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 8.70% of those under the age of 18 and 7.90% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
