Julius Caesar
used
Gallia Cisalpina
for the 'good guys' in
Gaul
(
Gallia
) on this side of the
Alps
from Caesar's point of view (
Rome
) - and
Gallia Transalpina
for Gallia on the other side of the Alps. "Gallican" was used for both areas of course. See also:
