Ciprian PorumbescuCiprian Porumbescu (October 14 1853 - July 6 1883) was a Romanian composer born in Sipote, Bukovina. He was born in the family of a Romanian writer and orthodox priest of Bukovina. He began studying music at the Suceava and Cernauti, then continued at the Konservatorium fur Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna with Anton Bruckner and Franz Krenn. He was one of the most famous composers of the time. Among his most popular works are the pieces "Crai nou" (New king), Trei culori and "Balada for violin and piano". In addition, he composed the music for the Albanian national anthem, "Hymni i Flamurit". He was imprisoned by the Austrian authorities because of his political activities, and during his imprisonment wrote his greatest pieces.
