Chop (Device)

A chop (Chinese "印" (Mandarin "yn", Japanese "hanko"), Korean 도장 ("dojang")) is a seal or stamp used in China, Japan, Korea, and other parts of East Asia to affix one's name to an official document such as a contract, or by artists to sign a piece of artwork. Chops are typically made of stone, sometimes of wood, and are used with a special red ink paste (Chinese "印泥" "ynn"). In Japan it is known as a hanko or inkan.
