Chi Psi

ΧΨ (Chi Psi) is the oldest social college fraternity. On May 20, 1841, 10 students at Union College created the society with emphasis on the fraternal and social principles of a brotherhood, rather than the literary characteristics of existing societies. Chi Psi is a fraternity of many firsts, being the first social fraternity, as well as the first fraternity to establish a central house, or "Lodge" as they are referred to. As of January of 2005 Chi Psi consists of 30 chapters, each of them called an "Alpha". Chi Psi's official colors are purple and gold. Notable alumni include: Albert II of Monaco, Stephen Ambrose, Bill Belichick, Clarence Birdseye, Nicholas F. Brady, Arne Carlson, Orville Freeman, Melville Fuller, David Gardner, John Gavin, H. John Heinz III, Richard Helms, Waite Hoyt, Roy Jones, Henry Luce, Charles Edward Merrill, John Sargent Pillsbury, William Proxmire, Thomas Brackett Reed, Kenneth Roberts, Richard Wilbur, Kemmons Wilson
