Charles Gordon-lennox, 7Th Duke Of Richmond

Sir Charles Henry Gordon-Lennox, 7th Duke of Richmond and Lennox and 2nd Duke of Gordon, KG, GCVO (27 December 1845 - 18 January 1928) was a Scottish politician and peer. He was the son of Charles Henry Gordon-Lennox, 6th Duke of Richmond and Frances Harriett Greville. His first wife was Amy Mary Ricardo, with whom he had his first son, who later became the 8th Duke of Richmond, along with four other children. After her death, he married Isabel Sophie Craven, with whom he had three more children. Gordon-Lennox was born in Portland Place, London, England. Between 1859 and 1863, he was educated at Eton. He joined the Grenadier Guards two years later, although he retired in 1869 after he became MP for West Sussex. He sat in that seat until 1885, when he sat as MP for Chichester (until 1889). Around this time, he entered his position as an Ecclesiastical Commissioner, in which he served until 1903. He and his brother, Algernon Gordon-Lennox, served in the South African War. On 27 September 1903, Gordon-Lennox succeeded his father as 7th Duke of Richmond and Lennox and 2nd Duke of Gordon (2nd creation). In 1904, King Edward VII made him a Knight Grand Cross of the Victorian Order and a Knight of the Order of the Garter. He also served as Lord Lieutenant in a few counties. After his death, he was buried in Chichester Cathedral.
