Chanuyos

On the Temple Mount in Jerusalem a great room was built along the Southern Wall. It was almost 1000 feet long and 105 feet wide. Its single story was 100 feet high. It was called "Chanuyos," the stores or mall. When the Roman government limited the powers of the Sanhedrin, the Sanhedrin moved from their chambers inside the Azarah to the Chanuyos. The Chanuyos were destroyed along with the Temple by the Romans in 70 CE. Here is an excellent illustration: http://www.campsci.com/museum/images/18a.jpg Here is a page with several interesting drawings and photos to show how the modern-day Al-Aqsa Mosque is built out of the ruins of the Chanuyos: http://www.campsci.com/museum/room18.htm
