Ceres is a city located in Stanislaus County, California. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 34,609.

Geography

  is located at 37°36'5" North, 120°57'26" West (37.601328, -120.957166). 
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 18.0 km² (6.9 mi²). 18.0 km² (6.9 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 34,609 people, 10,435 households, and 8,535 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,925.4/km² (4,988.6/mi²). There are 10,773 housing units at an average density of 599.3/km² (1,552.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 64.50% White, 2.75% African American, 1.40% Native American, 5.04% Asian, 0.38% Pacific Islander, 20.40% from other races, and 5.53% from two or more races. 37.89% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 10,435 households out of which 48.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.8% are married couples living together, 15.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 18.2% are non-families. 14.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.31 and the average family size is 3.62. In the city the population is spread out with 34.4% under the age of 18, 10.1% from 18 to 24, 30.0% from 25 to 44, 17.5% from 45 to 64, and 8.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 29 years. For every 100 females there are 97.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.8 males. The median income for a household in the city is $40,736, and the median income for a family is $43,587. Males have a median income of $35,109 versus $24,317 for females. The per capita income for the city is $14,420. 12.9% of the population and 10.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 14.6% of those under the age of 18 and 10.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line. It is also home to Sequoia Super Market, located on 2000 North Central Avenue, a family-owned and operated business for 50 years.
