Central Freeway

The Central Freeway is a freeway that is part of US Highway 101 in San Francisco. It originally ran west from the junction of US 101 and Interstate 80 with exits at Van Ness Avenue, Fell Street and Turk Street, but now only runs to the Van Ness Avenue exit. The freeway was damaged after the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake and the Turk Street section was torn down shortly thereafter. The Fell Street section was torn down in 2003 and the Octavia Boulevard Replacement Project was started to provide easy access to US 101 and I-80 from the Hayes Valley and Western Addition neighborhoods that was lost after the Fell Street section was closed.
