Castile-leon Castile and Leon (Spanish Castilla y Len) is an autonomous community of Spain, the country's largest. It is formed by the union of two ancient kingdoms: Kingdom of Castile and Kingdom of Len, several times separated and reunited in the Middle Ages. Leon maintains a weak feeling of separatism and dislike for Castile, with an old saying of "Len tuvo 24 reyes antes que Castilla leyes" (Leon had 24 kings before castile had laws) and "solo" (alone) can be seen spraypainted beneath many of Leon's signs. Castile and Len is bordered to the north by Asturias and Cantabria, on the east by the Basque Country and La Rioja, to the southeast by the autonomous community of Madrid and Castile-La Mancha, to the south by Extremadura, and to the west by Portugal and Galicia. Castile and Len is composed of the provinces of vila, Burgos, Len, Palencia, Salamanca, Segovia, Soria, Valladolid, and Zamora. The capital of Castile and Len is in Valladolid, and its other best-known cities are Burgos, Salamanca, Len, and Segovia. Spanish is the main language, but in Len, Zamora and Salamanca, Astur-Leonese language or Llons is also spoken along with Galician. In Trevio (Burgos), an enclave of the Basque Country, also Basque is spoken. The Astur-Leonese language is spoken in the provinces of Len, Zamora and territories under Portuguese administration of Miranda de Douro and Sendim. Its geographical limits are the Galician-Portuguese in the West, and the Castilian (Spanish) languages in the South and East. See also External link
