Cardinal Of The Holy Roman Church

Cardinal of the Holy Roman Church is the full, canonical name of the rank conferred by the Pope on certain deacons, priests, and bishops within the Catholic Church. Each cardinal takes on a "title" to a certain church, e.g., the Dean of the College of Cardinals always takes the title Cardinal-Bishop of Ostia; a Patriarch of an Eastern Rite keeps the name of his Patriarchal See as his title. See also College of Cardinals.
