Cape May-lewes FerryThe Cape May-Lewes Ferry runs from Cape May, New Jersey across the Delaware Bay to Lewes, Delaware. The ferry carries both passenger cars and foot passengers (as well as occasional tractor trailers). It has a capacity of about a hundred cars, and individual ferry trips sell out well in advance in the popular summer weekends. The ferry trip takes approximately 90 minutes, and provides a view of a lighthouse at the Cape May end, and two lighthouses at the Lewes end (the two breakwater lights of Cape Henlopen). Over the years, there has been talk of building a bridge/tunnel across the channel, similar to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel located in Virginia, about 200 miles south, but those plans were never realized.
