Canyon Lake, TexasCanyon Lake is a census-designated place located in Comal County, Texas. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 16,870. Geography Canyon Lake is located at 29°52'53" North, 98°16'3" West (29.881462, -98.267460). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 406.3 km² (156.9 mi²). 373.6 km² (144.3 mi²) of it is land and 32.7 km² (12.6 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 8.04% water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 16,870 people, 6,906 households, and 5,055 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 45.2/km² (116.9/mi²). There are 8,693 housing units at an average density of 23.3/km² (60.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 94.86% White, 0.31% African American, 0.57% Native American, 0.18% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 2.49% from other races, and 1.55% from two or more races. 9.77% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 6,906 households out of which 27.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.0% are married couples living together, 7.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.8% are non-families. 22.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.44 and the average family size is 2.81. In the CDP the population is spread out with 22.4% under the age of 18, 5.4% from 18 to 24, 26.6% from 25 to 44, 28.1% from 45 to 64, and 17.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 98.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.3 males. The median income for a household in the CDP is $42,019, and the median income for a family is $47,500. Males have a median income of $34,575 versus $25,268 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $21,516. 8.7% of the population and 5.6% of families are below the poverty line.
