Geography to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 43.8 km² (16.9 mi²). 43.0 km² (16.6 mi²) of it is land and 0.9 km² (0.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.01% water. Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 5,827 people, 1,846 households, and 1,583 families residing in the town. The population density is 135.6/km² (351.3/mi²). There are 1,868 housing units at an average density of 43.5/km² (112.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.30% White, 0.15% African American, 0.19% Native American, 0.79% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.07% from other races, and 0.50% from two or more races. 0.69% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,846 households out of which 52.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 80.6% are married couples living together, 3.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 14.2% are non-families. 10.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 2.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.13 and the average family size is 3.39.
