Brunswick, New YorkBrunswick is a town located in Rensselaer County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 11,664. The Town of Brunswick is east of Troy, New York. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 115.6 km² (44.6 mi²). 115.3 km² (44.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.25% water. Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 11,664 people, 4,613 households, and 3,266 families residing in the town. The population density is 101.1/km² (261.9/mi²). There are 4,808 housing units at an average density of 41.7/km² (108.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 96.38% White, 0.90% African American, 0.06% Native American, 1.60% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.31% from other races, and 0.73% from two or more races. 0.80% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 4,613 households out of which 31.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.9% are married couples living together, 8.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.2% are non-families. 23.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.52 and the average family size is 3.01. In the town the population is spread out with 23.5% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 28.5% from 25 to 44, 26.2% from 45 to 64, and 15.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 96.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.4 males. The median income for a household in the town is $56,528, and the median income for a family is $66,374. Males have a median income of $43,093 versus $31,995 for females. The per capita income for the town is $26,554. 3.2% of the population and 3.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 1.4% of those under the age of 18 and 2.5% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
