Brooklyn Dodgers (Baseball)

The Brooklyn Dodgers was Brooklyn's National League baseball team started in 1890.

Bridegrooms

The team was originally nicknamed the "Bridegrooms" because seven of the players got married around the same time in 1888.

Trolley Dodgers

Because of the complex trolley systems in Brooklyn, the team was called the "Trolley Dodgers" which was eventually shortened to Dodgers.

Move to Los Angeles

It was announced on October 8, 1957 that the Dodgers would move to Los Angeles. On April 18, 1958, the Dodgers played their first game in Los Angeles, defeating the Giants, 6-5, before 78,672 fans at the Coliseum.
