British Motor Corporation

The British Motor Corporation (BMC) was a car company, formed by the merger of the Austin and Morris companies in 1952. It was the largest British car company of its day, producing a wide range of cars under brand names including Austin, Morris, MG and Austin-Healey. In 1966 BMC merged with Jaguar to form British Motor Holdings. In the following year there was a further wave of mergers in the British car industry, and the company became the British Leyland Motor Corporation, more commonly known as British Leyland. Subsequent de-mergers resulted in the MG Rover Group.
