Britain In Europe

Britain in Europe is the main British pro-European pressure group. Despite is connections to Labour and the Liberal Democrats, it is fact a cross-party organisation with supporters from many different political backgrounds. It started to campaign for a yes for the Euro, although now it also supports a yes for the European Constitution. It also tries convey what it sees as the truth about what it sees as euromyths.

History

   
The organisation was launched in 1999 by Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, Ken Clarke, Michael Heseltine and Charles Kennedy. In 2003, the organisation linked itself with the pro-European organisation, the European Movement.

Backers

The organisation discloses the names of individuals and companies from which it receives donations of more than 5,000 in line with the requirements of the Political Parties Act, although as it is not a political party it is not obligated to do so.
