Brain CandyBrain Candy (1996) is the first (and so far only) feature film by The Kids in the Hall, a popular but distinctly alternative Canadian comedy troupe . It followed the five season run of their sketch comedy series, which enjoyed success on Canadian and American television. The film is about the introduction of a powerful antidepressant, entitled Gleemonex, to the general public. It tracks the lives of several users, the scientists who developed the drug, and the corporate heads who marketed it - all played by the Kids. Opening to mixed reviews (Siskel and Ebert, for instance, were split) and poor box office returns, the movie made a speedy jump to home video. The troupe took a four year hiatus after it's release, and have only recently entertained the possibility of a follow-up. Brain Candy was directed by Kelly Makin.
