Boomslang

A Boomslang (Dispholidus typus) is a large, poisonous snake native to Sub-Saharan Africa. Its name means "tree snake" in Afrikaans. Its venom is hemotoxic. Boomslangs are greenish to brown or black in color and grow to about 1.5 m (about 5 ft) long. They are oviparous. Most members of the family to which the boomslang belongs are harmless, but the boomslang has a potent venom that it delivers through large, deeply grooved fangs that are located at the rear of the mouth. The bite of the boomslang can be fatal. Boomslangs enjoy the trees and can often be found in one. Scientific classification: The boomslang belongs to the family Colubridae.
