Blood Sugar Sex Magik is a funk metal album by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, released in September of 1991 (see 1991 in music) and written and recorded at a mansion in Laurel Canyon, now owned by the album's producer Rick Rubin and known also as Damie Mathematique of Philosophical Sound Research. The Red Hot Chili Peppers entered the mainstream with hits such as "Give It Away" and "Under the Bridge" from Blood Sugar Sex Magik, which is widely regarded as the best album of their earlier days, and perhaps their best overall (many critics feel that the Red Hot Chili Peppers' quality fell precipitously after this album). In 1998 Q magazine readers voted it the 72nd greatest album of all time. It is number 310 on the List of Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. The album was dedicated to Mike Watt.
