Bloc Party

(Information obtained from MusicWiki at http://www.plugitin.com.br/wiki/Bloc_Party) Bloc Party is a British rock band formed in 2004. Often compared to contemporaries Franz Ferdinand , Bloc Party are seen by the music press as one of the most promising bands of 2005. Their sound, although similar to Franz Ferdinand, as well as post-punk bands like Gang of Four, remains unique. They are tipped to be one of the biggest bands in 2005 by the NME and others. But it's not just the music that's being tipped - guitarist Russell Lissack's a-symmetrical fringe was recently featured in NME as the new haircut for 2005, labeled by the magazine as 'the bloc head'. Apparently, Lissack is considering cutting off his trademark fringe. Their debut album, Silent Alarm, went to no.3 in the UK album charts, with 4th single, So Here We Are, making the top 5 the previous week. They are going to re-release Banquet in late March 2005. 'Block Party' is also a term for a large party along a group of streets and yards normally taking up an entire city block. Regional and local bands are often hired to play at block parties.
