birkbeck station

Birkbeck station, is located on Elmers End Road (A214) road, in the London Borough of Bromley; and opposite opposite Beckenham Crematorium. The tracks here are located well above street level; the buildings were damaged by fire in 1983. It serves two routes:

Tramlink Route 2 for the line between West Croydon and Beckenham Junction. One of the two platforms is used by Tramlink.
National Rail The station is located on a loop line between Crystal Palace and Beckenham Junction stations.

History

The part of the loop on which Birkbeck lies was opened by the London, Chatham and Dover Railway in 1858, but was closed from 1915 until the Southern Railway electrification scheme on 2nd March 1930 reopened it: at the same time this new station was opened, to serve a growing suburban area, and named after one of the roads nearby.
