Birgitta Trotzig

Birgitta Trotzig (born 1929), Swedish writer. Elected member of the Swedish Academy in 1993. Trotzig is one of Sweden's most renowned modern writers, having written several novels in which she gives voice to her Catholic faith and her dark visions. Returning themes are the death and resurrection of love. Among her novels are Sjukdomen (made into the movie Kejsaren in 1979) and Dykungens dotter (1985). She has also written essays and articles on poetry, and works of prose poems: Anima (1982) and Sammanhang (1996). Birgitta Trotzig is married to the artist and sculptor Ulf Trotzig.
