Bigature

Bigature was Weta Workshop's nickname for the very large filming miniatures (small-scale models) used in the Lord of the Rings film trilogy, including some of the film's central pieces, including the fortress of Helm's Deep, the elven harbour of Grey Havens, the white city of Minas Tirith and the grim towers of Orthanc, Minas Morgul and Sauron's stronghold of Barad-dr, the largest of which measured some 20 feet high. Extensive computer graphics techniques and computer controlled cameras were used to seamlessly meld bigature photography with living actors.
