Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 10.5 km² (4.0 mi²). 10.4 km² (4.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.74% water. Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 10,437 people, 4,085 households, and 2,998 families residing in the village. The population density is 1,004.9/km² (2,603.6/mi²). There are 4,196 housing units at an average density of 404.0/km² (1,046.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 93.21% White, 3.05% African American, 0.15% Native American, 1.85% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.29% from other races, and 1.44% from two or more races. 1.41% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 4,085 households out of which 33.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.8% are married couples living together, 6.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.6% are non-families. 23.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.52 and the average family size is 3.01. In the village the population is spread out with 24.6% under the age of 18, 4.0% from 18 to 24, 26.2% from 25 to 44, 26.1% from 45 to 64, and 19.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 91.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 87.5 males. The median income for a household in the village is $90,341, and the median income for a family is $102,223. Males have a median income of $80,283 versus $49,265 for females.
