Benedetto BonfigliBenedetto Bonfigli, 15th century Italian painter, was born in Perugia. Until near the middle of the 15th century the Umbrian school was far behind those of Florence and the North, but in the person of Perugino and some of his followers it suddenly advanced to the very first rank. Among the latter Benedetto Bonfigli holds a distinguished place. The most important of his extant works are a series, in fresco, of the life of St Louis of Toulouse, in the Palazzo Comunale (town hall) of Perugia; a gonfalon by him is prized for its contempaneous view of Perugia.
